The planting at the front of the Oak Pavilion will be selected for the sunny location — a mix of perennials and grasses to create a contemporary English garden. The rear corner of the garden is where the two main vistas meet under a stand of four Quercus Ilex.
The planting towards the back of the garden will have a woodland atmosphere with a tapestry of different foliage: ferns, Epimediums, Hakonochloa and Dicentra punctuated with spires of Digitalis alba.
The cube is one of three public sculptures created by David Harber for Zabeel Park, the largest public park in Dubai. A team from the workshop travelled to Dubai to manage the installation and alignment of the sculptures and sundial using local contractorsCharles Huntington
Why did you choose these pieces?
I wanted a collection that told its own story. I chose the artists that I felt would be able to tell the client’s stories of Chengdu through their art.
What were the significance of the pieces?
Every sculpture has been influenced and inspired somehow by the cultural heritage of Chengdu.
Charles Huntington, an American Indian artist of Ojibwe descent, was born in Niagara, Wis, on May 29, 1925. His family moved to the Minneapolis-St Paul area when he was an infant, and his formative years were spent there. After a 4-year tour of duty in the US Navy from 1942 to 1946 and subsequent employment as an auto mechanic, Huntington attended the Minneapolis School of Art (now known as the Minnesota College of Art and Design)
